I am determined.

This is one of the I am statements that popped up on my screen this morning, and it got me thinking.

What am I determined about?

I thought about it for a hot minute, while day dreaming about what today could hold.  ( my 7 brain haha)

After a couple of minutes my mind was restless and I didn’t want to stare at my screen and scroll. So I reached over for The Alchemist.

and. Shoooot. This stuck out.

“Because I don’t live in either my past or my future. I’m interested only in the present.”

Guys. This.

¡I reread this a couple of times, and couldn’t get past the simplicity of it! I grabbed my cup of joe, and headed out the door for a morning walk.

As I was taking everything in, I started processing what I had just read with the Lord!

And here are some thoughts from our walk 🙂

  •

How often do we find ourselves getting stuck in our past? Leading us down the road of self pity, un forgiveness, I should have said or done this differently and so on.

OR, we try to plan our future. We get captivated by the shiny bright what if’s. And get stuck in a cycle of trying to achieve.

(Yes, there is a balance of surrender in both, and receiving freedom and healing from our past. (yo. Jesus covers all) )

Instead, when we get so caught up in both, we miss the present.

  •

“Duhh Suze! Everyone knows this.” – my inner critic coming at me.

YET. Why are we stuck and captivated by the endless cycle of both!?

So many different ideas and thoughts of this is the “why” came to mind. The thoughts of how we can get so stuck in the cycles of rethinking our past, or planning our futures.

But, I hit pause on those and came back to The Alchemist.

So, let’s read it again.

“Because I don’t live in either my past or my future. I’m interested only in the present.”

Let’s actually step into the present and enjoy it.

This is what I am determined about.

Today I am determined to enjoy the present. To take it all in. To work on fundraising. To be still, and enjoy this cloudy day in Charlotte.

  1. Could not agree with you more about living in the present. We cannot change the past nor can our worry about the future as it is impossible to add any time to our life. Also, how awesome you went for a walk and “took it all in” – what a great way to clear your mind and enjoy the splendor of nature. May you continue on the path God has chosen for you. Praying for your fundraising to be met. As I remember reading that not all of us are called to be missionaries but we can offer support and prayers ! Am proud of you! Love, Mom

  2. Suze, you are so wise beyond your years. You simply amaze me. How is it that we all get stuck in the past and the present… while we are in today…?? Today is a gift. So why not unwrap it and it alone… you are doing amazing things and I am so very proud of you.
